How Flowers Can Help You Achieve Your Wellness Goals

Posted by Rosephoria Team on

Are flowers being called out as the new Prozac? Is science finally backing the ballooning claims of flowers’ wellness properties and healing powers? At the London Design Festival last September, entrants were requested to design a desk to fit into the new world of post-pandemic housebound lives. Distinguished British architect and designer Thomas Heatherwick presented a maple wood and glass table with plants sprouting from its legs. When asked the purpose of such a radical concept he explained, Exposure to natural environments...has very tangible improvements to brain functioning,”

And it’s not just Thomas, a growing number of health experts are suggesting that we surround ourselves with nature’s blooms for better health and emotional wellness. If you stroll through the supplements section of a store, you’ll see them: small, dark glass bottles, each promising relief from a specific emotional problem. Lavender: “instills a greater sense of calm when you're nervous, anxious, angry ...”. Who needs Prozac? And why just use the oil when the bearer of the essence can do more?

Happiness Blooms

The mood-lifting properties of flowers are so well established now that even hospitals are using them to cheer up patients which they suspect often lead to speedy recovery. In a covert psychological experiment, Professor Jeannette Haviland-Jones sent out 3 types of 'thank you' gifts - flower bouquet, candle, and fruit basket. The recipient of the flowers unanimously exhibited a Duchenne smile — an expression psychologists believe is “the sole indicator of true enjoyment.”

At the time of lockdown during the COVID-19 pandemic, people desperately searched for flowers. Google searches for “flower delivery” doubled, and Pinterest searches for "flower boxes" were up 408 percent. Flowers aren't needed to build to carve shoulder muscles. But they're essential to building emotional muscles and stability. With their vibrant hue, essence, and symmetry—they provide the solace we so desperately seek.

Infinity Roses: The Mysterious Pie Geometry

The question begs, is it the flower, its oil, aroma, or its geometric symmetry that has such a positive impact on human emotions? Recent discoveries show how even simple geometric shapes can convey emotional meaning. Is it possible then that it's the divine geometric shape of flowers that lend to a positive emotional response?

Or how else can we explain embalmed infinity roses having the same positive emotional effect on people nearby? We know that the universally present, ever mysterious pie geometry is found in the rose. Could this explain why these infinity roses harness emotions of love and affection when we place them in our living space? We know it happens, it's a fact and not an assumption. Buyers of the infinity rose, and recipients report feeling happy and elated at the very sight of these flowers. We still do not understand the science behind it fully.
Growing evidence is pointing toward the undeniable benefits of roses and showing how they can boost our overall wellness - some acknowledged by science, others not yet.

Gift That Keeps Giving

Time spent among flowers, plants, and fresh air can vastly improve your physical and mental health. The beauty and aesthetically mesmerizing geometry of flowers encourage a sense of calm and peace within. It's a proven fact that researchers have found employees to be more productive when they have flowers in their workspace - their creativity increases and they tend to solve problems quicker.
